Julien Deswaef

Julien Deswaef (BE) is a VJ programmer and versatile artist. Active both in visual art as well as in coding, he has the ability to transform "plastic ideas" into digital realities. He regularly collaborates with artists in the world of entertainment, music, plastic and digital arts. Engaged in Open Source and Free Softwares as an ethical principle, relevantly provides the connection between the visual arts, the world of contemporary images and the most advanced aspects in digital research.

2017

Shiv Integer is a software robot that randomly selects 3D printable objects on a website, assembles them into sculptures and posts them back online. Is it art or spam? The 3D printing community remains divided on the question. For this first Shiv Integer exhibition, the artists will show a 3D-printed selection of its sculptures, and a visualisation of the online debates it fostered.

2016

"I don’t know where this is going" is the second part of Iterations, a project investigating the future of collaborative artistic practices in a technologically networked context. The exhibition presents a collective installation by Pascale Barret (BE/FR), Miriam Raggam (AT), Claire Williams (BE/FR), François Zajega (BE), Julien Deswaef (USA/BE) and Annie Abrahams (NL/FR).

Log out, Turn Off, Join the fun :) 40+ artists from JP, US & EU! The mysterious collective IDPW.org invites us to perpetuate "in real life" the freedom and joyful anarchy of the early web with the Internet Yami-Ichi. The second edition outside of Japan of this post-digital flea market will take place in Brussels' Art Nouveau landmark Les Ateliers des Tanneurs!

This openLAB is the first masterclass on Digital Fabrication at iMAL. With an emphasis on forms generated by code, it will end with an exhibition of the works produced by the participants.
