Lecture by Daniel Rourke

BOZAR, Rue Ravensteinstraat 23, 1000 Brussels
In this lecture Daniel Rourke will introduce some of his favourite works from The 3D Additivist Cookbook, reflecting on the significance of 'weird' thinking and science fiction horror in the forging of new, radical forms of artistic action and political intervention. Horrific creatures from fiction and myth that mutate, envelope, or otherwise counter the attacks focussed upon them are repurposed as aspirational figures.
How do the endlessly shape-shifting, or amorphous, uncategorisable bodies of monsters, cyborgs and aliens point to novel metaphors and methodologies of political mobilisation and identity formation in an era of increasing technological and biological hybridity? How have artistic practitioners co-opted new technologies in the development of a politics of collective, mutually embodied forms of action and activism?
