Alexei Shulgin, in the nineties, was one of the first pioneers of net.art, with a variety of different roles: artist, curator, organiser of events and festivals (such as Readme, the first software art festival). Aristarkh Chernyshev has been active since the beginning of the nineties, and he directed, between 2000 and 2004, the Media Lab at the National Centre for Contemporary Arts in Moscow.
